Northwest Advocacy Foundation’s First Fall Fundraiser

For the past two years, Northwest Advocacy Foundation has partnered with the Allstate Foundation’s Purple Purse Challenge. Earlier this year, Allstate announced that 2018 was the last Challenge. We are eternally grateful for the work that Allstate does regarding domestic violence, and also for selecting us to participate in this fundraiser. We aren’t exaggerating when we say that the Challenge has been a complete game changer for us. In fact, because of it, we have:

  • Met and connected with donors and supporters all over the United States and Canada! Not bad for a small (but mighty!) nonprofit in Seattle.

  • Developed relationships with tons of amazing local small businesses – many of whom generously provided us with all of those wonderful prizes that we gave away!

  • Doubled our impact from 2017 to 2018 – in 2018 we helped over twice as many people than we did the year before.

  • Raised the funds necessary to keep our doors open. In 2017, we raised $12,275 and won an additional $5,575. In 2018, we raised $14,735 and won an additional $12,500. To put those numbers into perspective for you: our annual budget is approximately $100,000, meaning that funds raised and won from the Purple Purse Challenge have contributed to 18% – 28% of our annual budget for the past two years.

Just because the Purple Purse Challenge is done, doesn’t mean we are. Access to justice continues to be a problem for low- to moderate-income individuals, and that’s doubly true for victims of domestic violence. We are committed to continuing to offer affordable legal services to folks who desperately need it, and we are hopeful that we can still count on your support. Beginning this year, we’ll be hosting an annual fundraiser during the first two weeks of October, which is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Starting Tuesday, October 1, 2019, we’ll be asking you to make a donation, which will allow us to continue to offer legal advice to victims who are in abusive relationships but want to find a way out, represent survivors in court to secure domestic violence protection orders and protective parenting plans, and everything in between. To give you an idea of how your donation could help (any donation, regardless of size, is greatly appreciated):

  • $75 provides one client with a 60-minute consultation with an attorney;

  • $150 provides one client with a Petition for a Domestic Violence Protection Order, drafted by a licensed attorney;

  • $300 provides one client with legal representation in a court hearing – which can make all of the difference in the progression of their case;

  • $600 provides one client with legal representation in court-ordered mediation;

  • $1,125 provides all of the above.

The numbers above are for illustrative purposes, and do not guarantee that your donation of a specified amount will be used in whole or in part for the corresponding example.

Help Spread the Word

One of our favorite parts about the Challenge last year was interacting with donors, and giving away prizes, so once again this year we’ll be giving away tons of fun things, like:

  • Restaurant gift cards and certificates;

  • A year-long Barkbox subscription (courtesy of honorary board member, Rory Calhoun);

  • A pair of tickets to a Seattle Seahawks 2019 home game (courtesy of actual board member, Dayna Ducey);

  • AND more!

We are really looking forward to this fundraiser, and are so appreciative to have you sticking by our side throughout this transition. Thank you, sincerely, for your support these past few years. We are a small nonprofit, but we are able to make a meaningful impact in the lives of our clients, thanks to your continued support. We couldn’t do it without you!

PS: We’re also working on an in-person event sometime next year. Stay tuned for more information about this, and how you can meet our fantastic board and the attorneys who tirelessly advocate for the folks this organization serves.
